 Joseph Suib (1883-1956) nee Herman Joseph Suib emigrated from Lithuania to New York City in 1891.

He attended Cooper Union and the National Academy of Art where he received the second prize Halgarten Award from the Academy of Design and several honorable mention awards from Cooper Union and the Academy of Design.  While at the Academy he studied under Robert Henri.

 Joseph Suib was a member of The Salons of America and Whitney Studio Club. 

His work was exhibited at the People’s Art Guild, The Modern School, American-Anderson Galleries and Whitney Studio Club.  Some of the artists he exhibited with were Benjamin Kopman, Alfred Stieglitz, George Bellows, Edward Hopper and Joseph Stella. His body of work includes etchings, lithographs, screens, murals, portraits, landscapes and sculpture. Joseph Suib is included in the book, Painting a Place in America: Jewish Artists in New York 1900-1945.

In addition to fine arts he also was a master of faux arts, including marbling and graining. He was commissioned by people such as the Duke and Duchess of Windsor for work in their palace in the Bahamas, Fanny Brice, the Rockefellers, and Moss Hart.
